INVOCATION & PRAYER
P:: In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
P: Father, As we gather together today, we remember the supreme sacrifice of our beautiful King, the Lord Jesus Christ. Led like a lamb to the slaughter, clothed in humility and grace, he willing offered himself to death so that we might live forever. We are truly thankful for the extent of his love, stretched out on a cruel wooden cross. We dwell on the pain he bore for us and are truly grateful for the forgiveness that he offers. As we worship and praise Him now, help us to live in the wonder of this goodness and marvel at his endless grace; this we pray through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with You and the Holy Spirit are one God, now and forever. Amen.

OLD TESTAMENT
Job 42:7–9 (My servant Job will pray for you)
After the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “My
anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right,
as my servant Job has. Now therefore take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job
and offer up a burnt offering for yourselves. And my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept
his prayer not to deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me what is right,
as my servant Job has.” So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the
Naamathite went and did what the LORD had told them, and the LORD accepted Job’s prayer.

(Surely He Has Borne our Griefs) Isaiah 50:6-8; 53:3-12
P: He gave his back to the smiters and his cheeks to those
who pulled out his beard.
C: He hid not his face from shame and spitting.
P: He set his face like flint.
C: He knows he shall not be put to shame.
P: The LORD God helps him.
C: Who will declare him guilty? — Isaiah 50:6-8
P: He was despised and rejected by men.
C: A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

P: Although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.
C: Yet it was the will of the Lord to bruise him; he has put him to grief;
P: When he makes himself an offering for sin, he shall see his offspring, he shall prolong his days;
C: The will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand; he shall see the fruit of the travail of his soul and be satisfied.
P: By his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous; and he shall bear their iniquities.
C: Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong;
P: Because he poured out his soul to death, and was numbered with the transgressors;

P: Remember us in Your kingdom, Lord, and teach us to pray:

SILENT PRAYER
Merciful, eternal God, You did not spare Your own Son, but gave Him up for us all to bear our sins on the cross. Give our hearts such faith that we may never be frightened or despair; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
